You can review the Zotero Quick Start Guide for the basics on setting up and using Zotero.

• Cite your references and generate automatic bibliographies for your assignments.
  • Add your citations into both Microsoft Word documents and Google Docs. These extensions will let you quickly import automatically generated citations into your document.

• Take notes on and highlight your downloaded PDF documents.
• Collaborate and share sources by creating Group Folders. Great for working on group projects!
• Sync your collections to access your Zotero library on your desktop or the web app. Access your research wherever you are!
• Import collections from another citation manager (ex. EndNote, RefWorks) into Zotero.
• Export citations as a batch to be added to your Zotero library. Great for large-scale projects like systematic reviews.
• Import/export citations into BibTeX and LaTeX (from Princeton University Libraries).

Zotero comes with basic citation styles, however, there are many others that you can add, including AMA, individual journals, etc. Zotero provides documentation for installing additional styles using the Zotero Style Repository or downloaded CSL styles.
